Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times seen as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha hi/lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or dropped out, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further round of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to use precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely 2 cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in nearly every poker game.
A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
Although it seems complex at first, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have players betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing collection of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals battling for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha/8.
