Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself getting very aggressive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to play some serious chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus attention even more on poker.
The real advancement in his skills began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best gamblers would often challenge each other. Howard had access into a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategic concepts to the game of No-Limit holdem.
Howard Lederer also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, he made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
