Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best enthusiasts in the world. While playing web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money games?
